About Port Orange

Port Orange is mostly a mainland city that runs from the Halifax River west past I-95. A few neighborhoods with Port Orange addresses, such as Wilbur-by-the-Sea, sit across the river on the beachside. It is mostly residential, with neighborhoods of single-family homes spread across the city and shopping centers along Dunlawton Avenue, Clyde Morris Boulevard and Williamson Boulevard. The east side near the river has older streets and waterfront homes. West of I-95, the neighborhoods are generally newer, with more gated and planned communities.

Spruce Creek winds through the southern part of the city, and the Spruce Creek Fly-In, a gated community built around a private runway where many homes have their own hangars, sits along it.

Things to do

The Halifax River is the city's front yard, with a riverfront park and walking paths near the Dunlawton bridge, fishing spots and boat ramps. Spruce Creek is a favorite for kayaking and paddling through tree-lined water. The Sugar Mill Ruins, the remains of a 19th-century sugar plantation, sit inside a garden park off Old Sugar Mill Road.

Golfers have several courses in and around the city, and the city runs parks and ball fields. The Pavilion at Port Orange has shopping and dining. The beach is a short drive east over the bridge, through Daytona Beach Shores.

Getting around

Dunlawton Avenue is the main east-west road. It crosses the Halifax River to the beachside on the east and meets I-95 on the west, where it becomes Taylor Road. Daytona Beach International Airport and the Speedway are about 15 to 20 minutes north, New Smyrna Beach is a short drive south, and Orlando is about an hour away using I-95 and I-4.
