New Smyrna Beach, FL
New Smyrna Beach is a beach town in southeast Volusia County with oceanfront condos and cottages on the beachside, shops and restaurants on Flagler Avenue and Canal Street, and mainland neighborhoods west of the Indian River.
About New Smyrna Beach
New Smyrna Beach sits just south of Ponce de Leon Inlet, where the Indian River and the Halifax River meet the ocean. The city has two sides. The beachside is a barrier island between the river and the Atlantic, with condos along the sand and older cottages and newer homes on the streets behind them. The mainland holds the historic downtown, the riverfront and a wide spread of neighborhoods that reach west past I-95.
Two shopping streets anchor the town. Flagler Avenue runs from the North Causeway to the beach, lined with surf shops, restaurants and bars. Canal Street on the mainland is the older downtown, with local shops, galleries and places to eat.

Things to do
The beach is the main draw. Smyrna Dunes Park at the north tip has boardwalks over the dunes and views of the inlet, and the coast to the south runs toward Canaveral National Seashore, a long stretch of undeveloped beach.
The Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon are known for inshore fishing, kayaking and boating, and the city has public boat ramps and riverfront parks. Golf is easy to find, with courses on both sides of the river. Downtown and Flagler Avenue host art walks, markets and events through the year, and the Marine Discovery Center and Atlantic Center for the Arts add nature and arts programs.
Getting around
Two bridges connect the mainland to the beachside: the North Causeway, which leads to Flagler Avenue, and the South Causeway on State Road 44. SR 44 continues west to I-95 and on toward DeLand. US-1 runs north and south through the mainland.
Daytona Beach and its airport are about 25 minutes north. Orlando is about an hour west, and the Kennedy Space Center area is south down the coast.
